Day 9 nestling
This is a Day 9 nestling that I just banded. We put three color bands on the right leg to tell where the bird was banded, like Red, Dark Blue, Dark Blue. We also put two bands on the left leg that will help with individual I.D., like Red over or under aluminum. The aluminum has a band number on it also. These guys sure are ugly.
Coral Snake
This is the coral snake I nearly stepped on. For some reason he wanted to hide under our Ranger. We decided to catch him, so he spent the day with us in a Nalgene bottle until we released him.
Chigger bites
Oh, my favorite. The many chigger bites that I got. I had just as many above my knees also. I estimate around 400 total. Not fun AT ALL!
Barn Swallows
The barn swallow nests above our head while we waited out the storm. There were hundreds of them.

RCW Cavity
Here is an RCW cavity 83′ up in a live Longleaf Pine. THey excavate through the outer tree into the center where older trees are susceptible to heart rot so the inside of the cavity takes less time to excavate. It canstill take them 2-3 years to finish a cavity.
Go easy on the white legs, I wear long pants all.

The snake: would have made a great house pet if you had a LARGE aquarium — so long as he did not get loose….

Looking at the picture of the bites, it looks like you need to wash that left foot too.
You wear a size 13 shoe??? and so do I but your
feet look much longer…..
